JOIN THE TIBET SOCIETY ON A PEACEFUL MARCH ...

Geshe Dhonden-la, a Tibetan Buddhist monk who has recently arrived in South Africa will join us for the walk...

Your attendance is critical to make a firm statement about the situation in Tibet & on behalf of the Tibetan people!!!

When: Sunday 19 APRIL, 2008

Time: 06:00 a.m. - 14:00

(a free vegetarian lunch is included!)

Where: We will meet at Battery Beach in Durban and transportation will be available to carry us to the Gandhi Phoenix Settlement (see details below)

Our statement will be: ‘PEACE IN TIBET’

On Sunday 19th April the Tibet Society of South Africa will once again join the Gandhi Salt March to show their respects to Gandhi-ji, and to create an awareness regarding the Chinese occupation of Tibet. This year is particularly significant since it marks the 50th year since His Holiness the Dalai Lama and +/- 138,000 Tibetans have been in exile.

We will join the marchers at the Gandhi Settlement in Phoenix at 07:00 a.m. and walk with them to the Army Base camp at the beach-front. The walk is approximately 22 kms and walkers usually arrive at a tented area at 12:00. A cultural programme and lunch follows and usually the day ends at about 14:00. You need not walk the full distance and can be picked up or dropped off along the way. Safe parking is at Battery Beach and we will meet from 5.30 a.m. onwards where buses will transport us to the Phoenix Settlement.

There are usually about 1,000 walkers and the organisers are hoping to get more participants this year. Those who participated last year really enjoyed the comradeship of walking together with like-minded friends so please join us again this year and hopefully we will have additional participants wearing our bright orange t-shirts... a wonderful statement for Tibet!.

Please join the Tibet Society! To make our presence known we will hold a Tibet banner and wear our specially designed t-shirts exactly the same as those worn last year. So, if you joined us last year, please wear your t-shirt and if you would like to join us this year, please complete the following t-shirt order form. Since we would like to try and recover the costs of the t-shirts we recommend a R55.00 donation towards this. Please join us to make this an event to be remembered and encourage family & friends too.

Time is critical to get additional t-shirts ordered & printed; therefore, would you kindly indicate asap whether you are joining us on this occasion so that we can order the t-shirts in time for the event. Full details will be forwarded to participants closer to the time.
